Rotary Club of Cincinnati Commits to Help Girl Scouts
Rotary Club of Cincinnati Board of Directors at their meeting April 9 approved a program to provide assistance to Girl Scout Troops and Cincinnati Public School families. Area Girl Scout troops have lost an average of $900/each in sales which were to be used to support their goals and activities because they have been unable to complete their cookie campaigns. The club’s corporate member, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio, is projecting a $1 million loss to their largest annual revenue source. This will impact the services they are able to provide to over 37,000 girls – things like financial aid for girls to attend camp, training for troop leaders, and valuable online resources for volunteers. The club will be coordinating the purchase of cookies from troops from the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio and the cookies will then be delivered to La Soupe.
As you may recall Suzy DeYoung was a Jefferson Award winner in 2017 and is the founder and executive director of La Soupe. La Soupe rescues otherwise wasted food to create highly-nutritious meals for food-insecure families. During this pandemic, La Soupe is making meals for Cincinnati Public School families who normally rely on the meals provided by school resources. La Soupe will repackage the donated cookies to go with the meals they are preparing for these families.
The Rotary Club board has asked all its members on a pre-paid lunch plans to donate the cost of their pre-paid lunches for the month of April, to this program and those who pay at the door make a contribution to the program. The club unanimously approved matching all member donations up to $10,000. 100% of the donated funds and matching club funds will be used to purchase cookies from local Girl Scout Troops, which will then be donated to La Soupe for use in feeding Cincinnati Public School families.
