Our mission

The mission of DCCH Center for Children and Families is to express God’s love by providing compassionate care and quality services to address the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of children and families.
Opportunities

Kitchen Assistant

Duties include: Preparing and portioning food; serving lunch to residents and staff; delivering dinner to apartments; and light cleaning.

Must be willing to follow proper safe food handling procedures and interact positively with the residents. These takes place from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm or 3:00 pm to 5:00 on weekdays.

Apartment/Group Volunteer

Assisting the residential staff during regularly scheduled activities, including tutoring, arts and crafts, teaching daily living skills, and leading indoor/outdoor recreational activities. Interested volunteers should feel comfortable with initiating, suggesting, and leading activities for their assigned youth. Approved volunteers will never be expected to directly supervise residents outside the presence of DCCH personnel. Must be at least 18 years of age, and have the maturity to accept residents’ challenging behaviors. Must commit to a regular, consistent schedule at least once per week with a minimum commitment of at least six months. Volunteers will be assisting with routines on a regularly scheduled basis at least one day per week. Times are weekdays from 3:30 to 6:30; weekends, anytime.

Equine Program

Handling and caring for horses; organizing stable area, tack room, and barn; cleaning stalls, grounds, and paddock (mucking); maintaining tack and other equipment. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs. Must attend Equine Program and Safety Procedures training. Approved volunteers will also choose to participate in at least one of the three opportunities: Horse Feeding (able to handle horses, commit to at least 1 day per week in the mornings, must be able to lift 40 Lbs), Horse Training (able to handle horses, commit to at least 1 day per week, Must be able to: Utilize basic horsemanship; groom, saddle, and bridle horses; halter and lead horses into and out of pastures; lead horses, including backing and stopping; and react appropriately if a horse gets spooked. Must have experience riding and lunging horses) and Horse Sessions (able to handle horses, commit to at least 1 day per week on Mondays and/or Fridays from 3:30 to 5:00, must have basic horsemanship skills)

Mentoring

Mentoring a child supports our residents by continuing to develop appropriate relationships with adults, and keeping the youth connected to the community to which they will return. Mentors are matched one-on-one with a child from our program. Adults considering this opportunity must be able to volunteer at least one time per week for 2-4 hours throughout the child’s 6-12 month stay at DCCH. Mentors must be at least 20 years old and have a valid driver’s license with proof of auto insurance.

Group Activities

Did you know many of our children come from counties outside of the Northern Kentucky region? And sometimes, it is difficult for a child’s family to afford to put gas in their car and visit their child. Fuel cards and fast-food gift certificates are wonderful gifts you can provide for a child and their family. You give a child encouragement when they are able to see their relatives’ faces for the first time since they arrived at DCCH.

Halo League

If you’re looking for a great way to get involved, yet you are worried about the time commitment of other opportunities, this is the group for you! HALO (Helping All the Little Ones) has been caring for the children at DCCH over 20 years! Game Night, cookouts, bowling, pool parties, and roller skating are just a few of the monthly activities this group enjoys doing with the kids. Invest a little time, make a BIG impact! Join HALO today! Duties include: Planning monthly activities for the children in our Residential Treatment Program; purchasing supplies; assisting with the events/activities; participating in fundraising efforts. Planning meetings are held the 3rd Monday of each month at 7:00.

Child Care Assistant

Providing child care during the Foster Care Program’s Support Group. Volunteers will be accompanied by DCCH personnel. This takes place once a month on the 2nd Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Educational

Tutoring individuals; reading with students; assisting at the library; assisting with technology, offering music or art lessons; and/or documenting monthly records. Times are between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm.

Administrative

Duties include but are not limited to: Answering phones; greeting and signing in visitors; sorting mail. Must have a pleasant phone voice, a “can do” attitude, and abide by the confidentiality guidelines of DCCH. This is primarily a front Desk/receptionist role for 2-4 hours per week on Mondays or Wednesdays

How you help

By creating opportunities for our kids you are giving them more chances to be successful and creative! Mentors provide a child with a supportive relationship they can look to for advice and encouragement during one of the toughest times of their life. Or by volunteering and shouldering some of our staff’s responsibilities, you allow them to spend more time with a child in their time of need.
About us

We offer outpatient therapy and counseling, residential treatment, foster care, adoption, and training services to children, families and residents of Northern Kentucky. Starting out as an orphanage in 1848, DCCH has been helping children and families for over 160 years. At DCCH, we provide children who have been removed from their homes due to extreme physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect with a safe place to sleep, healthy meals, appropriate clothing and shoes, specialized education, and intensive behavioral therapy to move them out of pain and suffering to a place where they find a strong sense of security, peace, and hope.
