Results-Based boards function at arm’s length from the operational organization. They focus on the big picture, are future-oriented and act as a single entity.The board leads the organization with a general focus that is vision/results driven. They set initial direction and expected results. They monitor, audit and report on results. Board Requirements This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about the May Festival’s mission and who has a track record of leadership. Selected Board Members will have achieved leadership stature in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. His/her accomplishments will allow him/her to attract other well-qualified, high-performing Board Members. Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications: •Individuals should be long-game strategic thinkers with long range planning skills. •Individuals should have the ability to lead and govern. •Individuals should understand that their role is governance, not management. Governance establishes missions and objectives, while management actively works with goals and programs under accountability of board’s governance. •Individuals should have extensive professional experience with significant executive leadership accomplishments in business, government, philanthropy, or the nonprofit sector. •Expertise in financial management / accounting / marketing / legal / choral & vocal sectors, is particularly helpful. •Individuals should possess a commitment to and understanding of the May Festival’s constituents, preferably based on experience. Individuals must share the May Festival mission, vision and values. If they do not care deeply about the very purpose of the organization, their value is minimal. •Individuals should be willing to give of their time and money to see the organization’s mission accomplished. •Individuals should possess savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals. •Individuals must have personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of May Festival’s constituents. •Individuals should have access to foundations, corporations, individual philanthropists; media political professional and service organization contacts. Onboarding Candidates typically have an initial "interest" meeting with the Executive Director or a members of the Governance Committee. The candidate's interest in candidacy then is transferred to the full Governance Committee. We strive for 100% board giving, but have no strict guidelines around financial contributions. -- Parent -- Add New Additional donation expectation information The average contribution currently is approximately $2,200.00. This is a guideline with some Board Members giving more and some less. We do, however, expect a reasonable gift from each individual so that we can state to any trust, foundation, or governmental agency from which we are seeking funds that we have 100% financial support from the Board.
