Connect, While Staying At Home

Ombudsman Volunteers, Carol Burwick and Lynn Gray have been making calls to families of nursing home residents, to check in with them while they can’t make in-person visits.

Carol says, “I love making these calls. The families are so appreciative.”   Lynn agrees, saying “It makes a difference to these families to hear from us and know that somebody cares.”

On one call the family shared, “Joe is coming home tomorrow!”.

During the calls Carol, Lynn and other volunteers ask how the nursing home is helping the resident keep in touch with family, and they listen to worries and respond to questions.  For complex issues, the volunteers contact a staff ombudsman with the expertise to respond.
