Board Member

Our board The Branch Advisory Board of the YMCA is the body to which the governing board of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati Association has delegated a measure of responsibility and authority to develop and advise the organization in a defined service area or for a specific constituency. Each Branch Advisory Board is charged to carry on its work in a manner consistent with the general purposes and objectives of the YMCA and the policies and operating procedure established by the governing board of the Association.
Position Branch Advisory Board members are chosen for their individual standing and their demonstrated or potential qualities of leadership. The most desirable qualifications for board members include the following:
  • Enthusiasm about the YMCA and conviction about its purpose
  • Demonstrated interest in strengthening the community through the benefits the YMCA offers
  • Ability to command community confidence and respect
  • Ability to assess information and make important decisions
  • Courage to state one’s views on important issues
  • Unquestionable personal character
  • Ability to deal openly and directly with other board members when pleased or displease
  • Special skills, knowledge, and expertise that are needed for the term to be served

Commitment 1 to 3 hours/month
Donation We require a specific amount of “give or get” for all board members.
Requirements • Actively support the achievement of branch goals. • Elect officers, appoint committees/task forces and recruit volunteers with clearly defined responsibilities related to annual goal achievement. • Within Association guidelines support, through active involvement of its members, fund raising efforts required for financial stability and growth within Association. • Understand and assist the Branch Executive in implementing corporate policies. • Exemplify the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility and be a respected citizen by colleagues and the community. • Commitment to the YMCA mission and impact. • Breadth of understanding and respect of viewpoints of others. • Interest in the objectives and programs of the organization.
On-boarding The onboarding process is unique to each branch, but minimally consists of a completion of a Board Application and an interview with the Branch Executive Director
