Ways to help youth thrive |
Homework HelperThe kids at Boys and Girls Clubs always look forward to visits from our Homework Helpers! When you are a Homework Helper, you walk through the Blue Doors of BGCGC and are greeted by the front desk attendant. After signing in to the front desk you will be taken to the room with the age group of your choice. You enter a classroom with kids who are excited to see you and want to know all about you! You will either be partnered with a specific Club member or sit with a group at a table. Together, you will work on their homework during what BGCGC calls Power Hour. The Club member may need assistance with a math problem or help reading vocabulary words. You are there to assist them in any way you can, making sure they are understanding their homework and getting it done. You clean up together, remind the Club member how important it is to work on their homework and how excited you are to see them again next week.Reading BuddyWhen you're a Reading Buddy, you help bring books to life for our Club members. Once you're in the Club you are partnered with your Reading Buddy. You greet your Club member and get to know them. Together, you will select books and be given a small reading passage. After reading for twenty minutes, you review the reading passage, with the Club member reading through it with your support. You clean up together, reminding them how important it is to read every day, letting them know how proud you are of their growth and how excited you are to see them again next week.PE AssistantAs a PE Assistant, you will help keep our youngest generation fit and active! When you enter the Club, you will check in at the front desk and then will head to the gym. You will be assisting the PE Coordinator with the activity of the day. This may mean setting up kickball, playing dodgeball, or helping with our fitness testing! Our kids really enjoy PE time and always love having more adults to join in the fun. |

About us | Since 1939, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati has been changing lives and building great futures for kids who need a safe and positive place to spend the most vulnerable times of the day—immediately after school and at night, when supervision is often lacking and temptations are great. Our doors are open to the community’s youth, who are invited in to enrich their lives with Club membership, exceptional staff and volunteers, high-quality services and innovative programs, all at no cost. Every day, all of our kids do the things in this “home away from home” that will ultimately make a difference in their lives. They do their homework, and when they need help, we help them learn, grow and move forward with determination toward high school graduation and a plan for the future. They sit down together for a hot, nutritious meal, and learn about what to eat, how to cook and what to do to keep themselves healthy and fit for life. They serve each other in the Clubs and others in the community as they nurture the value of giving back. We are rightfully proud of our tradition and constantly work to build better, stronger homes in the Clubs so our kids can grow even brighter futures for themselves and for all of us. Because of our mission, history and vision for the future, BGCGC has become one of Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky’s strongest and most beloved youth service organizations. |
