Treeforestation

We’ve kicked off a new project at the CGC: Treeforestation. We started this reforestation project to save and protect Cincinnati’s green spaces. We will begin by having a series of invasive removal workdays, and then will begin planting native trees. This is an ongoing project, and we could use your help!

Compost Kids Volunteer

As a volunteer with the Civic Garden Center, you’d be helping out with our Compost Kids program. A typical morning would look like: You show up at 8:45am to help prep for the field trip. Around 9:30am, the kids (elementary school-age) arrive! You are ready at your station- today, it’s the “What makes up our compost?” station. You’re ready with all of the necessary materials: buckets, shovels, and all of the bins for each category of compost materials. You go through the lesson that you learned in your training and rehearsed that morning. Finally, it’s time for the kids to go through their buckets of compost! You get to know them as they eagerly sift through the dirt. As per usual, their favorite part is looking for worms! After a half hour, the small group moves onto the next station, and you get your new group, and do it all over again!

How you help With over 70 community gardens in the region, we have tons of opportunities available for interested volunteers. We also have a newer project, Treeforestation, which focuses on clearing Cincinnati's green spaces of invasive plants. We even have a volunteer group for young professionals, which meets monthly for volunteer events and happy hours. Reach out to us if you're interested!
About us The Civic Garden Center (CGC) is a non-profit horticultural resource. Founded in 1942, the CGC is the only organization of its kind in our region. We host classes, a horticultural library, several gardens for visitors to enjoy free of charge, the Green Learning Station and an outdoor compost classroom; the building and grounds are available for event and meeting rental. CGC has supported the development and continued success of over 50 community and children’s gardens throughout the city. Our outreach efforts include the Community Gardens, Youth Education and School Gardens programs. The CGC offers these programs at no cost to participants, thanks to the generosity of our donors, private and government grants and corporate sponsorships.
