The Dream Big pillow project is coming next month!!
How many times have you heard teachers and coaches tell students to go home and get a good night’s rest?
Did you Know…
• There are children in this community who don’t have a bed to sleep in, or a pillow to lay their heads on at night. Can you imagine trying to get a good night’s sleep on the bare floor?
• Studies have shown poor sleep in children has significant contributions to their school performance, test scores, behavioral problems, and even physiology like the immune system can be impacted negatively.
• We can do something to help.
At Empower Youth, we believe that every child should be able to sleep well at night, and have the resources and the opportunity to succeed in school.
We saw this first-hand and have been doing something about it ever since. For 4 years now, Empower Youth has provided every Kindergartner in the schools we currently serve a pillow and a challenge to Dream Big. Multi-Color of Norwood, Ohio has once again teamed up to provide 500 pillows for all Kindergarten students. Along with the pillows comes a tie-dyed pillowcase, with a Dream Big label inside - giving them a glimpse into their bright future that lays in front of them, and a stuffed animal.
Many of the youths we previously provided Dream Big pillows to have often attended Camp with these same pillows!
Providing 500 pillows to all the 2020 Kindergarten students is a huge endeavor. Our team will be tie-dying 500 pillow cases, applying the Dream Big iron-on label to each pillow case, then stuffing the pillows and a stuffed animal into each one. Sheila Miller is leading this project, with help from Janelle Baudendistel and the Grant Career Center Cosmetology program, as well as our Career X Live Oaks team led by Alicia Dorsey - each playing a key role in leading and serving others with joy. ... Most people don,t realize the poverty that lots of families live in.It's every where.Wanting to live like most people do is taught, not a given.Structure in life is very important. It starts with parents teaching their children right from wrong, making sure their children learn independence and accountability also the importance of getting an education.Opportunities exist for all but you have to seek them out, they don,t come looking for you.perseverance is the key.Work is good for everyone. No matter what job you have always do your best and be proud of your accomplishments.
My granddaughter got one last and still sleeps with it. She loves it, thank you everyone from our hearts 💕

My personal side.
Empower Youth has such a big role in my life, and often puts me in a public position I did not ever want or think I would have. I love the myriad of people I have the opportunity to reach and encourage, but also have to deal with the fact that the public eye cares about things that are personal. Although part of me holds to the “it’s none of your business” idea, I have learned that sharing things going on in my life can encourage and help others in their own journey. So, I want to share what God has been doing personally, especially with regard to the Walt Disney of Empower Youth, Lori.
Lori brought unbelievable blessing and challenges to my life. Blessing in the way she poured out her life for others. And challenges, for the same exact reason. She moved me to pour out my life, often to incredible exhaustion that few people know. We shared a vision and mission, and complemented each other well and was given opportunities from God to accomplish incredible things. One of her favorite Bible quotes was that, “it is not good to be alone,” by which she meant, “you’re lucky to have me, what would you do without me.” Although it didn’t mean she was perfect, she was right, and the struggle of losing a good spouse is something only those who have walked the path will understand. There’s rarely closure, and you come to know things will just not feel the same in any situation.
You talk to people and even read about others who start dating after less than a year from experiencing such a loss and imagine that they must have moved on or are trying to ignore the whole thing. That was easy to think when not going through it 24/7 without a break. C.S. Lewis was right in saying, “her absence was the like the sky, spread over everything.” You don’t just experience loneliness, like when you are single, but a severing of part of who you are so that whatever you are now is different. This is all added to my carrying of others burdens, and working 80+ hours a week continues to make it clear that I am weak and cannot walk this out forever. At the same time, I’ve had a supernatural joy that I cannot explain, other than God answering the prayers of so many. You know from others posts how people have blessed me.
Lori’s reminder was true, it is not good for man to be alone. So, as you see me entering into new relationships, please respect the person and the reasons why. It’s quite the opposite of moving on as if nothing had happened. In fact, it’s more the inability to move on with the way things were, to take on this life alone under all of the burdens, internal and external, that it took two people to build. I also ask that respect is given to the one who wants to walk this life out with me. She will not be better or worse than Lori. She will likely not be what you want her to be, but will be herself.
Again, I share this because I hope it will encourage and prepare others, because I am in the public eye regardless of how I feel about it, and because I want love and respect to win out over all of the ideas people form when nothing is said.

Your ability to be so transparent is supernatural to me. Thank you for having the strength and wisdom that brought you to share such a personal yet public journey.
I only knew Lori through others and her empower youth work and post. I felt her in the words you written. I don’t for a minute believe that someone with as beautiful a soul as she had would ever want you to suffer alone. She wanted love and good bounty for all she met. You surely would have been her first concern. If you are taking care of you the better you can care for others. God bless you and anyone that enters your life as you help to bless the youth in our community.
God bless you as you finish your race. I am certain Lori wants nothing but Love for you.
Just remember you are never going to make everyone else happy!!! Everyone has an opinion and frankly sometimes they need to keep it to themselves. Especially if they have not been in your shoes! I say do what makes you happy!!! WIsh you the best in finding someone to keep you company. :)
May God bless you richly in every way and give you fulfillment, contentment, healing and love, Brother ♥️🙏🏼
God bless you! Lori was right and I think she would want you to find happiness again. Praying...
