|Ways to help|
TutorFoster youth are often academically under-prepared and/or behind their peers and just require a little additional support for school success. Tutoring with HEMI is extremely flexible and provides an invaluable service for our youth.
Committee VolunteerHEMI provides quality programming for our mentors and mentees throughout the year. These events and programs require dedicated individuals who can help create and implement relevant and engaging content. Serve on the Scholarship Committee, help prepare for our Scholars Dinner, assist with our Health & Wellness Fair, plan the End of Year Celebration or contribute to the Back 2 School Bash!
Host an Info SessionHEMI is always seeking new audiences to spread the word about our program and how members of our community can support the program. Host an information session at work, or your place of worship, or with your friends and family and help us find long-term adult supporters for Hamilton County foster youth.

Being a HEMI Mentor is challenging work, but deeply rewarding. HEMI – the Higher Education Mentoring Initiative – is a team of professionals who work with foster youth and community volunteers like you. As a key member of the team, HEMI Mentors spend about an hour a week with their mentee helping them achieve success in high school, complete an accredited post-secondary program, and transition into independent, successful, young adults. Nationally, only 36% of foster youth graduate high school, 10% will decide to go to college and only 3% will finish. The need is urgent. We have hundreds of youth in our program looking for their long-term adult supporter. Mentors change lives! Will you answer the call?We look for a minimum of a year commitment, but HEMI Mentors ideally continue with their mentee for many years. Hide full description
|How you help||Community volunteers who answer the call to mentor a young person in county care become an advocate, provide a support structure, and develop critical relationships with some of our most marginalized youth. HEMI Mentors change lives! But mentoring isn't the right volunteer opportunity for everyone, so contact us about other ways to get involved and support this critical work.|
|About us||HEMI recruits community volunteers to become mentors to local foster youth to provide them a long-term adult supporter. HEMI Mentors and staff work as a team to help these young people plan for life after graduation and emancipation, and become independent, self sufficient, and thriving young adults.|
