Ways to help youth thrive

Mentor

When you are part of our Confidante Care program, you provide one-to-one support for our Petals, the teen parents who are enrolled in our program. Your support is vital to a Petal’s success as you will be a listening ear, calm voice and a leader in the Petal's life until that Petal masters self-leadership. Your initial meeting is a phone conversation where you will begin to break down walls of anxiety and rebuild those with trust. Listening actively to their concerns, you learn about who the teen is and allow the teen to know you. The first in-person meeting should be somewhere neutral, with their parent advocate; this helps to build trust with the family. During this meeting, you begin to understand where the teen parent sees their future and the future of their baby. Additionally, you start to see how their family envisions their outcome. This begins your one-year commitment of mentoring, support and coaching virtually and in-person.  We focus on the core areas of mental & physical health (including behavioral health), education and money management. By providing family support to all three generations, the teen parent, their own parent(s) and the baby, we change the trajectory for the entire family.
