Coronavirus has a direct impact on HUGS

We are a community garden in a food desert.  We grow large amounts of vegetables which are donated to food banks, community meal centers, and food rescue organizations, as well as to individuals and families. We are a small nonprofit organization and operate strictly through volunteers. We have no paid staff and count on Volunteers  to help us maintain the garden space.  With the onset of the coronavirus, we have lost significant help we counted on the assist us with planting vegetables, mulching our berry patches, cutting grass, weeding and other tasks associated with operating a garden.  Since the schools closing we lost our teen volunteers who come out two times per week, Tuesday’s and Thursday’s for 2 hours each day. Generally, we would have approximately 7 to 10 students volunteering. In addition, we were working with 25 Miami University students to help with various projects. Some of those students were set to help maintain the garden. In light of the school closings, those students are no longer in a position to physically help us in the garden. We have two groups that are helping with some operational processes, virtually. We are most grateful for that help.
