Way to Help Title Way to Help Content Becoming a Support Group Facilitator with Fernside makes a huge difference in the lives of children who are going through an incredibly difficult time in their lives. You co-lead a support group in our evening program, and are responsible for helping to create a caring environment in which group members share their stories, feelings and memories and discuss how to cope with challenges in their lives. We provide a 20-hour training program where you learn about grieving children and adults, group process and have the opportunity to hear first-hand from experienced volunteers and families who have participated in our program, which is offered two times each year. Fernside offers groups for children ages 3 - 18, who are grieving the death of a family member or friend. In the groups, children and teens meet with others their age grieving a similar death. As a trained facilitator, you address a theme each meeting. These themes include telling our story, feelings, changes and rebuilding, memories and many others. You address these themes through expressive arts, games, music and group discussion. Groups meet twice monthly and are held in the following neighborhoods: Anderson Township - Parent/Significant Adult Loss Groups Blue Ash - Parent/Significant Adult Loss and Sibling/Cousin/Friend Loss Groups Bridgetown - Parent/Significant Adult Loss Groups Downtown - Parent/Significant Adult Loss Groups West Chester/Liberty/Hamilton - Parent/Significant Adult Loss Groups Connected to Organization --- not set --- Ways to Help Tags Ages 12-15 18-24 55+ Adults Adults (18+) Child with adult Children Teens Ages Served Adults (18+) Babies and Toddlers Birth to 5 College Elementary (5-10) High School Middle School Professionals Commitment Length 1 Day 1 Full Year 1 School Year 1 Semester More Than A Year Groups Corporate Teams Families Groups (10+) Groups (2-10) Individuals Guidance Provided In-depth Minimal Moderate How Often Monthly Occasional One-time Weekly Time Commitment 1 Day 1 Hour/Month 1 Hour/Week 2 Hours/Week 2+ Hours/Week Training Formal None On-site Type Education Emotional Enrichment (Arts) Event support Fitness Indoor Office work Outdoor Physical Social Skills Typically Help Different Large Groups Different Single Students Different Small Groups Same Large (5+) Group Same One Student Same Small Group When Anytime Weekday Afternoons Weekday Evenings Weekday Mornings Weekends Where Community Center Library Nonprofit Place of Worship School Volunteer's Choice Youth Served Abuse Survivors Academically at Risk Arts Differently-abled English Language Learners Enrichment Facing Illness First Gen College Food Insecure Foster Care Gifted Homeless Juvenile System LGBTQ+ Low Income Household Mental Health Physical Fitness Pregnant/Parenting STEM -- Parent -- Add New
