| Our board | The Carnegie Center of Columbia’s volunteer Board of Directors comprises leaders from the nonprofit and for-profit sector who are dedicated to the organization’s mission. The Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum’s volunteer board is a working board comprised of individuals who value community engagement and historic preservation. In addition to the standard roles and responsibilities of a board member, our board members are active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and are fully engaged in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for The Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum to advance its mission. |

The ideal board candidate should have prior nonprofit board member experience or have received formal board training. |

The ideal board candidate should have prior nonprofit board member experience or have received formal board training. The Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum’s Board of Directors comprises leaders from the nonprofit and for-profit sector who are dedicated to the organization’s mission. Serving on The Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum’s Board of Directors is a civic opportunity for an individual who is passionate about strengthening leadership and governance in the nonprofit sector. Board members are expected to have the financial acumen to read and understand The Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum’s financial statements and to otherwise help the board fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities. Board members are expected to attend four bi-monthly board meetings per year. They are expected to read board materials in advance of board meetings and to come prepared to ask questions and participate in discussions. Board members set short and long term organizational goals, manage the preservation of the historic building, structure and monitor financial budgets, and hire/supervise contract employees. Board members are expected to volunteer at 2-3 community events per year as organized but the Executive Director.Board members are expected to play an active role in securing the financial resources necessary for The Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum to achieve its mission. Board members are expected to leverage personal relationships and connections to help the development committee and staff identify and solicit potential funders. Board members are expected to responsibly represent The Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum to their respective communities and to advocate for The Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum’s mission, programs, and services as appropriate. |

| On-boarding | Candidates will submit their resume and letter of interest to The Carnegie Center of Columbia Tusculum's Executive Director and will be reviewed by current board members. A phone discussion will take place between the Executive Director and candidate and upon approval will be invited to tour the facility and shadow a board meeting. Afterward, an interview with a current board member will take place. Upon recommendation, the board will vote on the applicant. |
